Introduction
I have been asked by my manger to explain how well the control measure I suggest fit according to
the college policies and legal requirements. I must include in this report the different control
measure that can stop hazards and how well they fit the college policies and legal requirements.
Information gathering.
I walked into a college room looking for hazards which could cause injury to students. Furthermore,
thought on any control measure which could decrease the hazards and any injuries. I also took
photographs of the hazards which I found in the room; this could be found in the risk assessment I
made. Around the college I spoke to a few people about any control measure which could be put in
place which could reduce the hazards and provides safety to them and students around them.
Justify the methods used to deal with hazards in accordance with workplace policies and legal
requirements.
Control Measure Number 1
The first control measure I have mention is to provide a wet floor sign in places where a spillage has
occurred as this will alert and make people award that something has been dropped. This will
prevent people from slipping and causing injury. I think this control measure meets policies because
providing a warning of a hazard which could possibly cause danger to the people is the one of the
legal requirements. In addition, this control measure will meet the Safety signs and signals the
Health and Safety Regulations 1996 as this regulation suggest that the employer or staff will know
which sign to use at different types of environment which will make them more responsible for the
health and safety of the students in the college premises. Therefore, the wet floor is a danger to the
students in the classroom and any student entering the classroom. By the legal requirements the
college must provide a wet floor sign to give a warning to students so that they do not receive an
injury. In addition, one of the college policies is to ensure that the risk in classroom is manged by
providing suitable risk controls. Providing a wet floor sign is a suitable risk control which will
decrease the chance of the students from getting injured. Another, college policies are that the
college must provide a safe environment for the students and staff. This means that the college must
provide rooms which the student or staff are not risks to hazards. This will link with this control
measure because if a spillage happens during a classroom activity, the wet floor will prevent any
injuries and cleaners will be alerted which further shows the wet floor sign will help the college
provide a safe working environment.
