National Certifying Examination for Surgical Technologists A comprehensive written examination required for official certification by the Association of Surgical Technologists, developed by the NBSTSA NBSTSA (National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting) Formerly the Liaison Council on Certification for the Surgical Technologist - is responsible for all decisions related to certification such as eligibility, renewal, and revocation, as well as developing the certification examination. NCCT (National Center for Competency Testing) A nonprofit organization that provides a certification examination for nonaccredited programs and on the job training, and other trained surgical technologists whose programs are not recognized by the Association of Surgical Technologists.
