Life processes:
Enzymes:
● Are biological catalysts that speeds up reactions in the body without being used up in the
process.
● An enzyme has an active site where it acts on the substrate. The substrate attaches to a
particular active site
● The enzyme works best at optimum conditions if the conditions are not suitable the enzyme
will denature changing the shape of the active site. Temperature and pH are the factors
affecting enzymes.
Diffusion, active transport, and osmosis:
● Diffusion is the movement of particles into and out of cells from where there is a high
concentration to where there is low concentration.
● The factors affecting diffusion are Concentration gradient, surface area, distance, and temp
● Active transport is the movement of particles against a concentration gradient
● Osmosis in cells is the net movement of water into and out of a partially permeable cell
membrane
The variety of living organisms:
● Eukaryotic cells have a nucleus which is surrounded by a membrane
● Prokaryotic cells do not have a membrane bound nucleus
