What benefits are there to be gained from volunteering
Practical skill use – Volunteers can implement skills that have developed within an academic
environment or otherwise in a practical environment for the first time and can put the skills to
practical use. This allows them to see the worth of skills developed and whether or not to develop
them further equally it highlights what skills need to be developed or improved.
Skill development – volunteers are able to by volunteering learn the value of skills and can improve
upon or perfect necessary skills that would be used in a real working environment.
Idea exchange- organisations can provide a new insight to volunteers allowing them to view a world
they otherwise wouldn`t and equally the volunteers can provide organisations with information and
new ideas that allows them to stay relevant.
Provide contacts- contacts can be gained by volunteering. Though these contacts may not be
relevant initially they can be used to gain experience, get to necessary places or be shown the right
way to where you want to go. The organisation will also gain the volunteer as a contact which may or
may not be useful.
