Antidote is protamine sulfate Lovenox Anticoagulant; Enoxaparin sodium Plavix (Clopidogrel); This antiplatelet drug prolongs bleeding time, so it should be watched. Avoid aspirin Tylenol Analgesic; Antipyretic; liver toxicity with high doses; <4000mg/day; liver patient <2000mg/day Lithium Antimanic ; a primary drug in manic depression (bipolar); 0.8-1.2 mEq/L; monitor blood levels. Vancomycin Antibiotic; Treats MRSA, C diff; Ototoxic, nephrotoxic; Infuse slowly (60 min) to avoid red man syndrome; CDC 12-step program Gentamycin Aminoglycoside, Antibiotic; Neurotoxicity, nephrotoxicity, ototoxicity. Slow IV/IM Synergistic when combined with a B-lactam (Sepsis); carefully monitor client's taking furosemide (lasix). Dilaudid Hydromorphone, Narcotic Analgesic; CNS Depressant Morphine (MS Contin); opioid; CNS depressant, constipation, confusion, hypotension, urinary retention, tolerance; monitor respiration, pain, teach fall precaution, constipation, bright room. Should be withheld if the respirations are below 10 Valium (Diazepam); Benzodiazepine; Antianxiety; potentiates GABA, abuse potential, tolerance. SE: CNS effects (sedation, dizzy, confusion) Muscle relaxant. Ativan (Lorazepam); Antianxiety; Antiseizure; Benzodiazepine; CNS depressant (sedation), blackout, respiratory depressant; assess fall, monitor respiration if on other CNS depressant. Lipitor (Atorvastatin); Antihyperlipidemic; MONITOR LIVER ENZYMES, ASSESS FOR MUSCLE PAIN AND TENDERNESS, REPORT TO DR IF PRESENT; Statin Prednisone (Deltasone); Antiinflammatory; Corticosteroid; Antileukemic drug; Administer before 9 AM to mimic normal peak corticosteroid blood levels; Increase dosage during stress; Taper doses; Do not give live virus vaccines Protonix (Pantoprazole Sodium); PPI; Altace (ramipril); antihypertensive ACE Inhibitor Vasotec (Enalapril); ACE inhibitor; Antihypertensive Zovirax Acyclovir (Antiviral) treats growth and spread of herpes virus Metaprolol (Lopressor); Selective beta blocker for Beta 1. Decrease rate and contractility. Doesn't affect respiration" Crestor (Rosuvastatin); Antihyperlipidemic Aspirin (Acetylsalicylic Acid); Do not give together with other anticoagulants. Stop taking Aspirin some days before surgery. Do not give to children with viral infection (Reye syndrome) Ibuprofen Take with food; contraindicated for people with GI ulcers Dilantin (phenytoin); 10-20 mcg/dL; Causes gum hyperplasia. Advice client to visit dentist frequently Predisone (Deltasone); Causes Cushing like symptoms. Common side effects are immunosupression(monitor client for infection), hyperglycemia Coumadin (warfarin);Monitor pt's lab work--PT, INR. Antidote is Vitamin K Cogentin (benztropine); Used to treat EPS Sinemet levodopa/carbidopa; Drug is effective when tremors are not observed Theophylline S/I for this drug: must get blood level drawn . Should be between 10-20. Used for sympatopmatic relief of, prevention of bronchial asthmas and bronchospasm. Side effects--Tachycardia Digoxin (Lanoxin): Signs of toxicity: Pt will complaint of visual change in colors. Side effects - most common is bradycardia. Monitor apical rate before giving. Less than 60 hold and call physician. Electrolytes - monitor potassium levels. Magnesium Sulfate Anticonvulsant Treatment for HTN, pre-ecclampsia, and hypomagnesium. SE incl. RR depression, arrhythmias, hypotension, hyporelfexemia. Monitor BP, for deep tendon reflex and respiratory depression calcium gluconate Magnesium sulfate antedote Hydrochlothiazide Thiazides; Monitor potassium levels Lasix (Furosemide) Loop Diuretic; Monitor potassium levels. Watch for sulfur alllergy. Aldactone (spironolactone); A potassium sparing diuretic; is used to decrease ascites and pleural effusion. Lithium Carbonate A chemical used to counteract mood swings of bipolar disorder; (0.8 to 1.5mEq). Adequate fluid and salt intake is important. Monitor blood levels. MAOI inhibitors Have dangerous food-drug interactions. Food with Tyramine should be avoided. For example: aged cheese, wine etc. Disulfiram (Antabuse): Used for alcohol aversion therapy. Clients started on Disulfiram must avoid any form of alcohol or they would develop a severe reaction. Teach pt to avoid some over-the-counter cough preparations, mouthwash etc. Atenolol (Tenormin); Antihypertensive; Compazine prochlorperazine; Antiemetic; extrapyramidal effects and agranulocytosis as side effects Thorazine (chlorpromazine) A major drug used to reduce the symptoms of schizophrenia Diovan (Valsartan); Antihypertensive; Celebrex (Celecoxib) NSAID Albuterol Proventil; An inhaler used to treat an asthma attack Advair fluticasone/salmeterol; long-acting bronchodilator Solu-medrol Methylprednisolone; treatment for allergic reactions, anaphylaxis, and asthma Cipro (fluoroquinolone); treatment for prostatitis and UTI's, Septra sulfamethoxazole/trimethoprim; Antibiotic Levaquin (levofloxacin); Antibiotic Neurontin (Gabapentin); Antiepileptic; Analgesic Adjunct; Anticonvulsant; mood stabilizer for chronic pain or bipolar Depakote (Divalproex Sodium); Anticonvulsant Cyclopsporine (restasis); Immune suppressant; Prevention of allograft rejection in organ Prelone (Prednisolone); Glucocorticoid/Corticosteroid; treatment for dermatitis, arthritis
