Summary

While reading this report, you will get a first look in the learning goals that I have set for myself and
how Sibuya Game Reserve is organized. In the period of five months, from the 23th of August until the
23th of January, there will be three reports submitted that will give a complete overall view of Sibuya
Game Reserve and which learning goals I have set and how I am planning on achieving those goals.




Before leaving The Netherlands, I already had set some learning goals but I have found out that I have
a few more while being here.

- Learn more about a different culture
- Learning to communicate with every member of Sibuya Game Reserve
- Learning how to use my organizing skills in a way that could help Sibuya in a positive way
- Learning how to work with different people and in a different environment
- Being respected and threated equally by male colleagues

All these goals have something to do with my work in River Camp or at Sibuya Game Reserve.




In the second part of my report, you will find the 7s model from McKinsey being explained and applied
to Sibuya Game Reserve. The same goes for the explanation of the sector Sibuya is in and the active
trends and developments which are useful for Sibuya to be involved with or aware of.

Introduction Simonne van der Beek

The opportunity to do this internship was given to me by Saxion University of Applied Sciences. Within
my study, Facility Management, there are two internship periods. Currently I am in my second year
where the first internship period takes place.

On the 23th of August, myself and three other students came to Sibuya Game Reserve to start our
internship. Two of those students, Gerbrand and Stan, are studying Hotel Management and one
student, Sary, studies Tourism Management. The reason for me to apply for South Africa was the
opportunity to explore South Africa more and connect with the South African citizen. Sibuya Game
Reserve seems like the right place for me to experience that.

After spending more than two months here at Sibuya Game Reserve, I can honestly say that this is the
right place. Working with local people is an experience on his own and not to mention working with
the other staff members and foreign guests. I would like to thank Sibuya Game Reserve and Saxion for
this truly life-changing experience. With three more months to go, I am looking forward to learning
more about life, culture and the organisation Sibuya Game Reserve.
