Trollope's Argument The novel "The Life and Adventures of Michael Armstrong The Factory Boy" was written by Frances Trollope between 1779 and 1863. It was published in parts in 1840. The novel's preface informs a reader of the real-life exploitation, hardships, and challenges that children faced in the factories and other workplaces during the industrial revolution. She writes intending to reveal the injustice that infants faced in the mills (Trollope, iii). She also suggests that the hero of the story should have been involved in the amendment of the constitutional rights to abolish children's suffering going through the same hardships he grew up facing.
