, Introduction


The disquieting effects that Covid-19 has had on South Africa since 2019, even up until this
very day, is no secret. Covid-19 has not only had a major influence on lives on a personal
perspective but has also impacted how we work. People are left with concerning extrinsic
effects such as financial instability, work insecurity and the decline of overall health. The
intrinsic effects have been a shocking reality as well – the overall rising of depression,
behaviour-related deviations, and anxiety. Naturally, all these negative effects started
showing up in the workplace and soon became too serious to ignore.


People from all around the world have encountered issues as big corporates and small
businesses continued to adjust to new work arrangements and safety regulations. Employers
started using both physical and psychological treatments to reduce anxiety as companies
realized how crucial it is to protect employees' mental health for the sustainability of the
company and the economy as a whole. This was very difficult to manage because of the rapid
spread of Covid-19. Demotivation, job dissatisfaction, and attention deficit issues started to
plague employees, which was vital for firms to keep growing as much as what was still
within their control (Eysenbach, 2020).


Public awareness-building and education on mental health had to become part of
psychological treatments. Workshops and internal training programs were made available to
support employees to have a thorough awareness of aggravated anxiety and its symptoms.
Knowing this made it easier for individuals to recognize and manage their own anxiety
symptoms while encouraging their co-workers to educate themselves and to support one
another during Covid-19. It soon became apparent that organizations as a whole, as well as
individual employees, benefitted from psychological treatments in the workplace (Wooll,
2021). Organizations that prioritized employee mental health were able to foster a culture that
valued resilience and well-being, which ultimately increased job and employee satisfaction as
well as employee retention.


Organizations started equipping their employees to face the uncertainties of the future by
introducing awareness programs, encouraging open communication with one another, and to
incorporate stress-reduction methods within the workplace. It is more important than ever to
