History Hospitality:
Host (Latin): Lord of the strangers
Hostire (Latin): Equalize or compensate
Words like Hospitable, Hostel, Hospital, Hospire etc.
Traditional Hospitality was for Protection and Survival, while supplying basic needs of food and
shelter. Like the Red Door was symbol for Hospitality.
Hospitality Now is Etiquette and Entertainment, while supplying basic needs of food and shelter.
Characteristics for the Hospitality Industry;
> The product in intangible and perishable
> No such things as business hours (24/7)
> Ever changing field
> Impressions are important
> Staff is the critical success factor
> The Hospitality Industry is a Global Industry.
Clubs:
> Association of a group of people with a common interest
> Clubs can be focused on business, leisure and so on.
> Clubs can offer residential facilities (or not)
> Entrance fee and membership fee.
> Not accessible for non-members.
> Consist through globalization
Medical Tourism:
> Worldwide multi billion industry.
> Elective or Emergence
> Recovery time combined with beach or safari
> Cheaper
> Countries promoting Medical Tourism: India, Cuba, Thailand.
