What is inter-VLAN Routing?
VLANs segment switched networks. Catalyst switches support over 4,000 VLANs. But layer 2 switches
have very limited IPv4 and IPv6 functionality and cannot perform the function of routers.
A VLAN is a broadcast domain, hosts on separate VLANs are unable to communicate without
intervention of a Layer 3 routing device (Router or Multi-layer switch). Regardless of the device, the
process of forwarding traffic from one VLAN to another VLAN is known as inter-VLAN routing
