Environmental education is a process during which values are discovered
and concepts are explained to develop skills and attitudes pertaining to an
appreciation of the relationship between man, his culture, and his
biophysical environment. Environmental education also includes the
practice of decision making and the formulation of a personal code of
conduct on matters affecting the quality of the environment.
1.1 Discuss why the above definition is considered to have a
behavioural emphasis. [5]
Environmental education is a process of recognizing values and clarifying
concepts to develop skills and attitudes necessary to understand and
appreciate the interrelatedness among man, his culture, and his
biophysical surroundings.
Environmental education also entails practice in decision making and self
–formulation of a code of behaviour about issues concerning
environmental quality.
Consider the environment in its totality – naturally, socially, economically,
and politically, and be a continuous, lifelong process.
Be interdisciplinary in its approach – involving all subjects and examining
major environmental issues from a local to an international perspective.
Focus on current and potential situations while considering their historical
