presentation in English. I was free to choose a subject. I have chosen to tell you
something about alcohol, because it’s all around us and most of us also drink
alcohol. I am going to tell you about these subjects.

What’s alcohol?
Alcohol is a natural product that arises by fermentation of barley (gerst) or
grapes. This natural fermentation process stops when it reaches about 15%.
This is called low alcohol drinks. For example, wine and beer.
When they start a new process by heating and cooling low alcohol, the alcohol
level increases. This is called liquor. For example, beer contains 5% alcohol,
wine 12% and liquor like Vodka, Gin contains 35% alcohol.
Besides beer, wine and liquor there are many other different drinks on the
market. Among young people mix drinks are very popular and also shooters
and alcohol pops. You will know them as shots.
, What does alcohol do in your body?
Alcohol reaches your brain through our blood. When you drink alcohol, you
start to feel the effect after about 10 minutes. When you have had a proper
meal, it takes a bit longer, before the alcohol starts to work. When you drink to
much alcohol in once, you will feel a short-term effect. Such as vomiting, black-
out and a hangover.
However, when you drink too much over a longer period, it will damage your
liver. If you keep on drinking too much alcohol, your liver is damaged more
seriously. There are four stages of liver damage.
Stage 1: Fatty liver
The first stage is a fatty liver. Because the fat metabolism in your liver can’t
work properly. Your liver can’t digest fat cells and the starting to build up in
your liver. A fatty liver can cure when you stop drinking alcohol and eat
healthy.
Stage 2: Liver infection
If you don’t stop consuming too much alcohol, your liver could get infected.
This is could alcoholic Hepatitis. There is an also a change to get an acute
alcoholic hepatitis, this is an acute liver infection. This could happen when you
drink too much alcohol in a short period of time.
Stage 3: Liver fibrosis
If you are still not listening to your body and keep on drinking, you will get liver
fibrosis. This means you are creating scare tissue in your liver. Your liver cells
will get permendly damaged.
Stage 4: Liver cirrnosis
This is the final stage of liver damage. Your liver cells are starting to die off.
Your liver is a kind of filter and Couse of the cirrnosis it can’t do his work
properly. This is a serious problem, because now your liver can’t filter your
body anymore. Symptoms are jaundice (geelzucht) and a big belly. The change
of liver failure is very great. When this happens, you need a liver transplant.
Otherwise, you are going to die. The change to get a liver transplant when you
are an alcoholic, is very slim.
