Ethical dilemma

The goal of this paper is for you to consider ethical issues related to the role and responsibilities of psychologists in a treatment setting. You will write a two page paper responding to the ethical dilemma described below: You are a clinical psychologist working with a client on an outpatient basis. At the beginning of treatment, you go through your standard informed consent process where you explain that all information that is discussed in session is confidential with the standard exceptions explained. At your fifth meeting together, the client reveals that she has a plan to physically harm her ex-boyfriend. She reveals that she has bought a gun and plans to threaten her ex-boyfriend with this gun in the near future if he will not get back together with her. You explain to her that you are concerned about what she has told you, and that you must break confidentiality and warn both the police and her ex-boyfriend. Your client is furious! She yells that she only told you because you promised complete privacy, and now you are going back on your word! She threatens that she is going to tell the APA and the state licensing board, and she will have your license revoked for breaking confidentiality. She angrily storms out of your office.
