1. Introduction eHealth and mHealth
1.1 Information systems
Information systems = Information systems (IS) are the means (middelen) by which people
and organizations, who are increasingly using technology, collect, process, store, use, and
disseminate information.
1.1.1 Data-Information-Knowlegde Wisdom Pyramid
- Data (Raw) =These are just raw facts or observations, without any interpretation or
meaning. For example, a traffic light is red.
- Information (Meaning) = When we add meaning to data, it becomes information.
Now we understand what the data is referring to. For example, “The south-facing
traffic light on the corner of Pitt and George streets has turned red.”
- Knowledge (Context) = When we add context to information, it becomes knowledge.
This means we understand it in relation to a situation or perspective. For example,
“The traffic light I am driving towards has turned red.”
- Wisdom (Applied) = When we apply knowledge, it becomes wisdom. This is using
what we know to make a decision or take action. For example, “I’d better stop the
car.”
1.2 Health care data
This model we will use during the whole course.
When we talk about data in healthcare, we need to think about the 8 caring technology
principles:
1
,Person-centred technology (1) = Ensuring that the way we use data has to serve the
patient and not the other way around.
Integraded technological ecosystem (2) = Ensure different technologies work together
seamlessly.
2
,Autonomous and informed choice (3)= Users should have control and understanding over
decisions. Its about consent
3
, Ownership of personal data (4)= Individuals should control their own data. This is about
trust
