,Les 1 – Storytelling: The basic rules & how to use it
1 Voorbeeld: Pulp fiction
1.1 Thema en betekenis
Pulp: 1) A soft, moist, shapeless mass of matter. 2) A magazine or book containing lurid (=
luguber) subject matter and being characteristically printed on rough, unfinished paper.
• Tragic film without the sadness and a comedy without a
comic plot.
• A film that bends political correctness.
• From the beginning the title makes reference to the pulp
American trashy novels that were popular and full of
violence and by sanitizing and glorifying the violence, it
plays homage to it at the same time as being self-referential
and mocking it.

3 Basic storytelling timeline
3.1 3 acts structuur: Begin, midden, slot (!!!)
Het begint altijd met een probleem waar een oplossing voor moet worden gezocht.
Bv. 13 reasons why: Zelfmoord → Tapes beluisteren en onderzoeken
Tussen de 3 acts (begin, midden en slot) zit een plotpoint.

= Momenten waarop er iets gebeurd om het verhaal verder te sturen. Hierdoor krijg je een
“wave”.
3.1.2 Sequence & themes
Sequences: Grote blokken waardoor het verhaal structuur krijgt.
Meestal een 8-tal. Sequences zijn opgedeeld in scènes.
