, IMPORTANT INFORMATION
All honours assignments must be submitted electronically via myUnisa. The
Department of Communication Science requires all students registered for the BA(Hons)
Communications degree to submit their assignments electronically via myUnisa.
The reason for this is twofold:
• As a Communication Science student, you should access and use electronic media – this is
what will be expected of you in the work situation.
• All assignments need to be self-scanned for plagiarism to protect the academic integrity of
both students and the institution. See the next section for more detailed information.
If you experience difficulties with, or have any queries about electronic assignment
submissions, please refer these queries to or send an SMS to
43582 for assistance.
To scan your assignment on Turnitin is compulsory. Carefully read the information below,
as the requirements for Turnitin has changed from previous years.
What has not changed is that all postgraduate students must submit all their work
(assignments, portfolios, etc.) to the programme Turnitin, to scan for similarity prior to
submitting it via myUnisa. Failing to do so will unfortunately result in 0% for the assignment.
What has changed and has been implemented since 2019 is what you submit to Turnitin and
what you then subsequently submit via myUnisa regarding your Turnitin report. A tutorial
letter/information document will be made available via Additional Resources on myUnisa.
This document will offer specific details regarding the Turnitin submission process and
procedure. In short, however:
You will have to submit your entire assignment (including all technical matter) to Turnitin. This
means that your submission to Turnitin will include (in this order):
• Firstly; a cover page indicating your name, student number, module code, number of the
assignment, unique number of the assignment, and assignment theme (if appropriate).
• Thereafter, on the next following page, your Declaration of own work submitted (see
template under Additional Resources on myUnisa and Tutorial Letter CMNHONE/301).
• After this, on a third separate page, you start your Table of contents
• Following your table of contents, you will have the body (subject content) of your
assignment, which starts with an introduction and finishes with a conclusion.
• On the last page(s) of your assignment, you will have your List of sources consulted and
Addenda (if appropriate and applicable).
Therefore, your entire assignment, including the cover, declaration, table of contents, and list
of sources must be submitted to Turnitin. The entire, full Turnitin report must be downloaded as
a .pdf (showing the Originality mark-up, not the GradeMark or PeerMark view) and submitted
