History within a European context is unfit without a look at philosophy, and the first 'seminar' or tutorial offered at SciencesPo looks at the views of certain philosophers and their interpretations of the period of Enlightenment in 18th and 19th century Europe.

The first lecture of the semester deals with how we calculate GDP, the most common form of measuring a country's prosperity. There are three separate methods that are discussed within the notes, each with its own eases and complications of calculation in the real world.
