Outcomes:
, 1 on 1 Tackling, the defender starts on both knees and the attacker jogs past the
defender for him to wrap his legs up and bring him down
2-man tackles, two attackers pass the ball between each other and when the coach says
‘Go’ then the person with the ball runs into the gap between the two defenders for them
to make a 2-man tackle
Tackling game, 4 attackers 6 defenders, ball starts in the middle and then the coach says
either left or right, so the attackers attack there, and the defenders must set there
quickly and try to make two man tackles on whoever has the ball
Main content/
Initial stage of
exercise: 1 on 1 rucking where the defender must try and drive the attacker off the ruck and
secure the ball legally
Full contact game with rucking and tackling and focusing on 2-man tackles and one on
one rucking
1 on 1 tackling progression:
To progress in this drill you can move the defender up from both knees to one knee and then
from one knee up to standing. Also for the attacker, you can change his pace when going into
contact so he can go from jogging into running and then from running into sprinting
1 on 1 rucking progression:
Progression 1:
To progress in this drill you can add more attacking players and more defending players to the
ruck to make it harder to drive the attacking team off to regain the ball.
