Reflection on Learning in Assignment 01
Assignment 01 introduced me to the foundations of research
in higher education management. Through this task, I learned
to differentiate between qualitative and quantitative
paradigms, understand the role of variables, and develop a
research problem that is clear and measurable. The
assignment helped me appreciate the importance of research
, design in shaping valid outcomes. I also improved my
referencing and critical analysis skills, as I was required to
locate and synthesize scholarly sources to justify my ideas.
Most importantly, I realised that research is not merely about
data collection but about asking meaningful questions that
contribute to academic and institutional improvement.
Working on Assignment 01 gave me a sense of confidence in
identifying a relevant research topic within the HMEMS80
module, especially in relation to student engagement and
academic integrity in the age of artificial intelligence (AI).

sampling, data collection instruments, and statistical analysis.
I learned how to operationalise abstract concepts such as

Moreover, this task enhanced my ability to interpret
