The Great Gatsby’s Tragic Love story

An Australian director, Baz Luhrmann, released a film on May 1, 2013, to create

the 1925 novel called "The Great Gatsby" by an American writer, F. Scott Fitzgerald.

The well-known writer created his books to depict the Jazz Age's excess. Luhrman had

perfected the film with the help of his starring actors, Leonardo DiCaprio, Carey

Mulligan, Joel Edgerton, Jason Clarke, Isla Fisher, and Elizabeth Debicki, to produce a

historical romance dramatic story. The Great Gatsby captures the historical time of the

Roaring Twenties, such as the chaotic parties, illegal drinking, and the economic boom

of the post-war in our human history. Additionally, the movie reveals that love can bring

dishonesty. The story starts with Nick Carraway as the protagonist and the narrator (first

person limited). In the 1920s, He goes underground for treatment at a sanitarium. Nick

told his doctor about Jay Gatsby, the most remarkable man he had ever met, and his

doctor suggested writing down his thoughts as the film tells Nick's story. He traveled to

New York to learn about the bond business. However, by visiting his cousin Daisy

Buchanan, who lives across the bay from his home, Nick discovers that he moves in

next door to the millionaire Gatsby, who throws ridiculous parties in his mansion. Also,

He finds out Daisy's husband, Tom Buchanan, has an affair with Myrtle Wilson when

Tom invites him for lunch. Eventually, Nick meets Gatsby by getting an invitation and

learns Gatsby has been in love with Daisy. He helped Gatsby reunite with Daisy, but

they started an affair. However, Daisy reveals that she did love Tom in the past when

they comforted Tom about their romance, which made Gatsby lose his temper to create

a breaking point in their relationship. After leaving the dramatic scene, it starts

significant events that lead to Gatsby and Myrtle's death in the end. Great Gatsby

should be recommended to middle schoolers because using the film's theme and the

character analysis of Tom Buchanan can make the audience fascinating on how

making choices can make a significant impact later on in their lives. In the rest of the

essay, I will provide two identified elements with reasonable explanations while having

counterarguments to release different perspectives, then end it with a conclusion.

Furthermore, the theme of the Great Gatsby illustrates love can bring dishonesty,

especially within the love triangle of Tom Buchanan, Jay Gatsby, and Daisy Buchanan.

After Daisy and Gatsby have reunited, they spend every moment together in the

mansion as Nick watches them enjoy their happiness. It leads them to an affair in that

Daisy lies to her husband to continue seeing Gatsby. Once they had decided to confront

Tom about their love, Daisy finally became open about her relationship with Tom as she

stated, "I love him once, but I loved you too." As a result, these scenes demonstrate

love has been played within the main characters, even though it doesn't show the best

side. The love triangle creates the main conflicts throughout the film. Daisy betrays her

husband, Tom, for her old lover by using false excuses. Although she kept the truth

away from Gatsby during those beautiful moments together, she acted as if Tom didn't

exist, just asking questions about her old lover's life. Gatsby must have assumed that

Daisy couldn't receive these feelings towards Tom from coming back to him without
