The applicant is the South African Legal Practice Council



Why was the applicant established?

The Legal Practice Council was established in terms of section 5 of the Legal Practice
Act to facilitate a transformed and restructured legal profession in order to provide
access to justice for the majority of citizens. The Council regulates the affairs of all
legal practitioners, candidate legal practitioners and juristic entities by developing
norms and standards to guide the conduct of all legal practitioners. The Council also
in accordance with the Act admit legal practitioners and keep a roll of all practitioners.1
