NSG 6101 Discussion Week 10
NSG 6101 Discussion Week 10. One of the first steps in conducting research is identifying the problem and formulating a research question. Unanswered issues in current clinical practice or when experiences dictate alternative therapies are both reasons to provoke an investigator to formulate a clinical research question (De & Singh, 2019). The objective of critically analyzing current practice to formulate researchable problems was accomplished by learning how to identify an existing problem affecting the U.S. The problem I recognized and was of interest to me, was the obesity epidemic. I chose to identify comprehensive behavioral-based interventions and test their effectiveness in weight loss, in turn, if implemented within primary care settings, could result in assisting to decrease the obesity epidemic. The coursework completed in this course taught me considerations to look for when formulating my research question. For instance, I learned a wellformulated research question should be specific and precise and will guide the implementation of the project, keeping in mind the identification of variables and the population of interest. Once my question was formulated, I had to ensure that the problem was worthy of research and would provide relevant data. I analyzed both quantitative and qualitative studies to identify valid information for my selected topic. The second objective, evaluating research as the basis for decision-making to improve outcomes through translation into evidence-based practice, was obtained by thoroughly researching for articles published in scholarly journals. Moreover, utilizing the South University library search engine, along with developing a comprehensive list of validated evaluation tools and techniques to evaluate my research data while explaining when each might be most useful and why. In this course, I learned, before research can be trusted, knowledge should be derived This study source was downloaded by from CourseH on :00:31 GMT -05:00 2 from robust scholarly methods, and these methods should drive our clinical practice, decisions, and change to improve the way we deliver care (Curtis, Fry, Shaban, & Considine, 2017). The third objective, synthesizing and understanding the research process through the development of a proposal to address a nursing problem or focus area identified in nursing practice, was obtained by completing various steps over the past ten weeks. I was able to achieve this goal by learning each week the different components that a research proposal consisted of and actively completing them through midweek assignments. I discovered the steps taken in research could be lengthy and very time consuming, long literature reviews, collection of viable data, signifies the reason research should not be wasteful, and should be completed on pertinent topics.......................
