THE FUNCTIONS OF A CONVEYANCER
CONVEYANCING AS PART OF THE LEGAL PROFESSION
In terms of Section 15, read together with regulations 43 and 44 of the DRA, certain deeds can only be
prepared by a conveyancer: deeds of transfer, mortgage bonds, certificates of registered titles and other
certificates of registration as provided for in the DRA. A conveyancer may prepare deeds for registration at
any deed's registry within South Africa irrespective of the province in which such conveyancer is admitted or
practices. Powers of attorney, applications or consents can be prepared by an attorney, notary or
conveyancer, but where they are prepared by an attorney or notary, such document must also be
countersigned by a conveyancer.
