, Introduction
This Minor Study Plan (MSP) serves as a comprehensive guide for the research and
development of the project within the context of Haven-Stad and Minerva-Haven. Haven-Stad is
a transformational initiative aimed at revitalising former industrial and port areas into a modern,
sustainable, and high-density urban district of approximately 650 hectares. The project
envisions 70 000 new homes and 58 000 jobs, addressing both housing shortages and
economic vitality.
Minerva-Haven is a component of Haven-Stad with similar objectives on a smaller scale. This
MSP lays the foundation for systematic research and the development of a professional
product that aligns with the area’s objectives, guiding the reader through various phases:
problem analysis, vision development, research strategy, and the design of innovative
solutions.
Central research questions in this MSP:
• Which strategies can be employed to realise a climate-resilient, mixed-use, and
sustainable urban development in Minerva-Haven?
• How does a self-sufficient energy system contribute to the area’s resilience?
• In what way can circular waste streams and urban farming be integrated for a future-
proof neighbourhood approach?
• Which measures promote social justice, affordability, and inclusivity within a new live-
work district?
• How can Minerva-Haven’s industrial heritage be architecturally and spatially
repurposed and honoured responsibly?
This MSP will serve as the roadmap for the collective efforts to address the challenges
and opportunities presented by this large-scale transformative project.
