Nucleic acids have 4 nucleic acids
• GCAT
• Each cell has 2 meters of DNA.

Facts about structure of DNA
• DNA is a double helix; it has 2 strands that twists around each other.
• It has a sugar phosphate backbone.
• Bases join the 2 strands by hydrogen bonds. These bases are cytosine, guanine, adenine and
thymine.
• Complementary base pairing is a key idea in genetics: C pairs with G, T with A.
• Each strand of DNA can be millions of base-pairs in length and is coiled up to make
chromosomes. DNA is found in chromosomes.
A nucleotide diagram
•
• DNA stands for Deoxyribonucleic acid.
• If the sugar is ribose, its rna.
• If the sugar is deoxyribose its dna.
• The bond between pentose sugar and the base and group are covalent bonds. Phosphate
groups joins carbon 5, nitrogenous base joins carbon 1.
