BIOL202 Week 8 Discussion; Share Project and Course Reflection
W8: Share Project and Course Reflection My results from every lab experiment I conducted were positive. The experiments used a range of different scientific techniques to give me an experimental foundation for the theoretical concepts discussed in the lectures. I learned about the equipment used in lab experiments, comprehended the scientific approach, and learned how to analyze data, and now I know how the concepts were developed logically. The laboratory experiments also introduced me to new ideas and techniques that I had not learned in the traditional courses but had a wide variety of applications in experimental research. I'll be able to use all of these abilities and information in my future work. I chose the topic "Yeast Strains and Beer Flavors" because I enjoy a drink or two myself. Although the subject of my project had no bearing on either my current or future professional endeavors, I enjoyed learning more about it. I was interested in learning more about how beer is manufactured using gluten and yeast because I also have a gluten allergy. The purpose of this experiment was to determine whether the yeast strain, the quantity utilized, or only the primary ingredients affect flavor. The methods will be useful, particularly when figuring out how much and what kind of yeast to use to get the flavor you want. The Compound Interest article titled "What Gives Beer its Bitterness & Flavor?" proved to be the most helpful for my endeavor. The article clearly outlined the essential steps that must be taken when making beer, what makes the majority of beer available on the market taste bitter, the best yeast to use when brewing under specific circumstances, and how to make sure you don't leave a bitter aftertaste in your beer to meet market standards. I was able to learn how to brew good-tasting, high-quality beer from this essay.
