Describe the clinical manifestations of appendicitis with its underlying pathophysiology and associated lab findings. Include information about the typical timeframe for progression of symptoms. • Peri-umbilical pain first, nausea, vomiting, low grade fever, R leg flexed, R quadrant pain( McBurney’s point) • Caused by obstruction of the lumen by a fecalith( accumulated feces), foreign bodies, tumor of the cecum or appendix, or intramural thickening caused by excessive growth of lymphoid tissue • Diagnostic Labs- WBC( slight elevation), UA, Chem panel 2. What assessment findings would indicate the appendix has or is about to rupture? Discuss how this would affect the nursing plan of care for the pediatric patient.
