COMMANDANT’S DIRECTIVE TO THE CADETS
All Cadets undergoing training at National Defence Academy (NDA) will follow the
following directives in letter and spirit:-
(a) Honour Code. The Honour Code of the Academy will be observed by all Cadets
in true letter and spirit.
(b) Integrity. Harder right over easier wrong is the way of life at NDA. Every
Cadet is responsible for his/her own actions and he/she will be held accountable for the
same. In all your training activities, you will encounter the choice between the right and
wrong. The right thing to do isn’t always the easiest thing to do, but it is always better to
do the right thing. A Cadet is expected to have the Honour and Courage to adopt a
way of life which is morally and ethically right regardless of the consequences.
(c) Leadership. Learn to follow and learn to Lead. You all have joined NDA to
become leaders in the Armed Forces. During your training, you will receive the benefits
of hundreds of years of proven combat leadership principles. You have to first become
a “Team player” by helping course mates, squadron mates and team mates. Always
learn to follow lawful orders and then learn when, how and why orders are given. When
leadership opportunities come your way, take them without hesitation. At NDA,
mistakes are learning experiences and these experiences will help you become a
Leader of Character.
(d) Excellence. Every Cadet will have opportunities to demonstrate `excellence in
all we do’. Every Cadet will choose an area of excellence of his/her choice at the
Academy. He/She will work hard in this field and be an asset to the Nation and Armed
Forces after passing out of NDA. Remember - Excellence is achievable.
