BUSI 301: Discussion Board Forum 2 Thread - Complete Solution Guide Case Study: Frederick is a student at Central Fictional State University (CFSU), and he has a great idea for a new business invention. Frederick's invention and the business that he plans to found based upon it will absolutely revolutionize the market and will make him very rich. He decides to share his idea with a few of his professors, and he even uses the idea in a research project for one of his classes. Frederick is a new Christian, but his professors at CFSU are not Christians. While Frederick is at home over summer break, he discovers, much to his dismay, that his professors have stolen his idea and have opened a business marketing his new invention. Upon making this discovery, Frederick immediately seeks the advice of the local lawyer who has a reputation for being a "scorched-earth" litigator. Needless to say, this Rambo, "take-no-prisoners" lawyer is not a Christian. He advises Frederick that he should sue " those professors for everything they've got." Assume Frederick comes to you for advice from a Christian perspective. He knows that the Bible says something about " love your neighbor" and "turn the other cheek" and "do not resist an evil-doer," but he is just not sure how to make sense of all of this. What is your answer to Frederick? Refer to the Assignment Instructions folder of the course for general directions. Use the words "File Suit" or "Do not File Suit" in the subject line of your thread, depending upon your conclusion. Do not use attachments as these are cumbersome and inhibit the discussion process. File Suit As I am not a Christian, I am going to answer this DB1 thread in two ways. My subject line is based on what I would suggest to Frederick, but I will start reviewing what I think a Christian would tell Frederick to do based on suggested Bible passages. Then, I will close with what I would recommend to Frederick. I would say if a Christian were asked this question they would answer Frederick by telling him to not file suit. The following passages outline why the Christian would say not to file suit. The constant theme in these passages is that a person should avoid seeking revenge and look for ways to end the dispute without a prolonged war against another person. The passages talk about all persons are brothers and thus they should treat each other as such. Looking for resolution through a peaceful fashion as opposed to seeking punishment is the path to take as seeking punishment is not the way to the Kingdom of God. It also indicates that those who take from others for gain will come to want necessaries. All of the above is great if we lived in such a world where these things came to pass. We do not live in such a world and while one could argue that we should strive to be better, Frederick has to find resolution in this world. Therefore, my advice, if Frederick came to me would be to file suit. However, I would not use the scorched earth approach and I would find a lawyer who would look for a resolution through meditation first and give the professors an opportunity to make right their misdeed. I believe this is a more realistic approach and hybrid approach that incorporates the passages advice of seeking a resolution that does not seek to destroy my brother, but leaves the option of a formal suit if they insist on not coming clean for their misdeeds.
