Schedules of Reinforcement
Name the schedule in the example:
, 2
Example: Name the schedule:
Arjun gets a sticker for the first correct response Fixed interval
after a two-minute interval has passed.
Cristina gets to pick a prize after an average of Variable ratio
four homework papers are turned in.
One star is earned every three times Juan raises Fixed ratio
his hand.
Kiana gets five minutes of iPad if they answer Variable interval
correctly at the end of an interval, which lasts
five minutes on average.
Schedules of Reinforcement
Fixed interval:
In a fixed interval (FI) schedule of reinforcement, there is a fixed predefined period that
must pass to occasion the administration of a reinforcement even after correct behavioural
responses are achieved (Cooper et al. (2019). That means the reinforcement will only be
delivered after the duration elapses. For example, a student attends a dental examination on every
20th day of the month. On this day, he’s rewarded for every indicator of proper dental care. Any
achievements that occur after or before are not rewarded until the next dentist appointment.
Lim (2024) observes that fixed interval reinforcement schedules are likely to exhibit low
rates of desired responses in the course of the interval until towards the end of the interval, where
the response may increase drastically until reinforcement is delivered. In that case, FI
reinforcements are best fitted for clients demonstrating fairly good behaviour but require
