Fishbone diagram
A visual aid that helps organize cause and effect relationships for "things
gone wrong." Part of root cause analysis. AKA "Ishikawa diagram"
Gantt Chart
A time and activity bar chart that is used for planning, managing, and
controlling major programs that have a distinct beginning and end.
Pareto Chart
Quality improvement tool. Contains both bar and line graphs where the
bars are in descending order by frequency and the line is the cumulative
frequency. Useful to prioritize and focus efforts. Also known as the 80/20
rule - 80% of problems are caused by 20% of factors. Example: Orderset
usage to show which ordersets contribute most/least to overall usage.
Run Chart
A chart that displays the history and pattern of variation of a process over
time
Process Mapping Symbols
Oval - beginning and ending of a process map. Squares - middle steps.
Diamonds - decision points.
RxNorm
A clinical drug nomenclature developed by the Food and Drug
Administration, the Department of Veterans Affairs, and HL7 to provide
standard names for clinical drugs and administered dose forms
CVX data standard
Immunization Coding Standard. Think of "VX" as "Vx" for "vaccine."
LOINC

,Logical Observation Identifiers Names and Codes. Standard (vocabulary
or terminology) for identifying laboratory results and clinical observations
for exchange. Used as mapping mechanism. Can include social
determinants.
Each database record includes 6 fields:
1. Component: what is measured, evaluated, or observed.
2. Property: characteristics of what is measured (i.e. concentration)
3. Time Aspect: whether the observation applies to a point in time or a
period of time (i.e. 24 hours)
4. Specimen: specimen type or context
5. Scale: Scale of measurement: quantitative, ordinal, nominal, or
narrative.
6. Method: The procedure used to produce the measurement or operation
where relevant (optional)
Income Statement
A financial statement showing the revenue and expenses for a fiscal period.
Can also include non-cash expenses such as depreciation.
Balance Sheet
A financial statement that reports assets, liabilities, and owner's equity on a
specific date. Think of the Quicken summary page.
Cash Flow Statement
A financial statement that reports net wages and other income along with
spending for a period, such as for a month. A cash flow statement shows
the exact amount of a company's cash inflows and outflows over a period of
time.
Delphi Method
Think ATA Guideline development. A form of group decision-making that
involves consensus of a group of experts using a multi-stage, iterative
process with feedback to converge on a decision.
Consensus Building and Consensus Mapping
Consensus Building - convene a group of experts to discuss until a decision
is reached, not an interative processes

, Consensus Mapping - separate a decision/project into components to have
small groups evaluate independently then join them together into a
consolidated map.
Nominal Group Technique
Think - Digital Health Strategy Workgroup - structured retreat approach
designed to generate ideas and have participants discuss and then vote on
those ideas. Highly-structure, face-to-face group interaction where
participants express their opinions and have them considered by the group.
