Why was the standard for excellence written?
ANSWER: To set the UA apart from their non-union competition, as a result of
trends in the market place, and to refocus members and leadership on why clients
choose the UA
There are three main themes to the message of the SFE, what are they?
ANSWER: A declaration of who the UA is.
A commitment about what they will do.
A promise that clients can count on them.
What are some of the duties of the membership of the UA as listed by the
SFE?
ANSWER: Show up on time. Stay off cell phones while working. Have proper
tools. Zero tolerance for drug and alcohol abuse. Obey safety rules. Respect
customer property. Dress appropriately. Follow client rules. Put in a fair days work
for a fair day's pay.
How is market share defined?
ANSWER: The percentage of total available market.
, For an average contractor, what percent of the total cost of a labor hour is the
"on the check" wages?
ANSWER: Approximately 50%
Assume the total cost of a labor hour is $60. If a worker with just 30 minutes a
day, how much will this cost the contractor in one year's time?
ANSWER: $60 per hour equals $1 per minute 1 times 30 minutes equals $30 per
day. 5 days per week x $30 per day equals $150. $150 per week times 50 weeks
equals $7,500
What is a prime contractor?
ANSWER: The contractor that has a direct contract with the project owner.
If your company is the prime contractor, what subcontractors on the job site
will you have to manage?
ANSWER: All of them
What is a fixed price contract?
ANSWER: A contract that defines the scope of work and the price for that work.
What are two skills or traits a foreman must have?
ANSWER: Skilled in the work. Basic reading writing and math skills. First aid
training including CPR. Strong safety skills. Familiarity with technical standards
and an understanding of where to get information about standards.
