A competency assessment designed for healthcare professionals, typically
nurses or technicians, to evaluate their foundational knowledge of cardiac
rhythm interpretation and related clinical responses
Is a 35-question, multiple-choice competency assessment used by healthcare
organizations to evaluate a professional's (such as nurses, paramedics, and
medical students) fundamental knowledge of cardiac rhythm recognition and
interpretation
DYSRHYTHMIA – BASIC A
,Key Characteristics
Progressive PR prolongation: On an electrocardiogram (ECG), the PR interval (the time between
atrial contraction and ventricular contraction) gets progressively longer with each beat across
several cycles.
"Dropped" beat: Eventually, an atrial impulse (P wave) occurs but is completely blocked at the
AV node, resulting in no corresponding ventricular contraction (QRS complex).
, Cycle reset: After the dropped beat, the cycle resets, and the next PR interval is the shortest
again, beginning the cycle anew.
Benign nature: Mobitz I is typically a benign condition that usually originates in the AV node and
often does not cause symptoms. It is less serious than Mobitz II and rarely progresses to a
complete heart block.
