The paper systematically utilizes the TTM to describe the process of behavior change from the perspective of an individual aiming to become physically active. Key Sections and Concepts: The Transtheoretical Model (TTM): The core framework used to analyze the behavior change process. Five Stages of Change: The document details the individual's progression through the model's distinct stages concerning their physical inactivity: Pre-contemplation: The stage where the individual does not perceive physical inactivity as a problem and is reluctant or defensive about making changes, characterized by being in denial. Contemplation: The stage where the individual becomes aware of the implications of their sedentary behavior, seriously considers making a change, but is not yet committed to action (lasting around six months in the example). Preparation: The stage where the individual intends to take action soon and begins to take small steps, such as setting a workout schedule or buying gym wear. Action: The stage where the individual actively engages in the new behavior (e.g., attending the gym) for a period, though the changes are not yet fully integrated. Maintenance: The long-term stage where the individual works to prevent relapse and sustain the change they have achieved. Processes of Change (Examples): The document briefly mentions processes like Self-Reevaluation (realizing the impact of the problem on oneself) and Environmental Reevaluation (realizing the impact on others, like family) as mechanisms used during the change process. Interventions: The document suggests preferred interventions tailored to the stages, such as using decisional balance and self-efficacy in the early stages, and self-liberation (believing one can change) during the preparation stage

Five Stages of Change

Pre-contemplation is the first stage of change, which entails individuals not actively

seeking out solutions because they do not yet perceive that they have a problem (Raihan &

Cogburn, 2020). In this step, I had not considered my problem with physical inactivity and a

sedentary lifestyle; hence, I was reluctant to think and seek solutions to stay active and healthy.

When questioned by others, I was not ready and even defensive of my behaviours. I was in

denial for years before I decided that physical inactivity was adversely affecting my life.

Contemplation is a crucial stage in my behaviour change journey. At this step, I

considered the behaviours and their potential implications on my general health. I became aware

of physical activity and its lack thereof, as well as its impact, and seriously considered making

changes (Raihan & Cogburn, 2020). However, I was also seriously considering whether the

problem was worth changing; therefore, I was not committed to making any changes. During

around six months, at which I was seriously contemplating, I read and researched the behaviour

and understood that I needed to do something about it.

The next stage is preparation, which entails individuals recognizing that their behaviour

is highly problematic and can cause serious problems in future, hence the commitment to change

it. During this stage, I seriously weighed the pros and cons of the behaviour change and gathered

much information regarding the anticipated changes and benefits to health. I gathered adequate

information to help me plan adequately to prevent relapse.

The action stage is where the actual change happens and is currently implemented.

During this stage, actual behaviour change is expected in up to six months (Raihan & Cogburn,

2020). In the past month since I started acting on the behaviour, I have gained confidence and

belief that I have the willpower to make the changes. I am still reviewing the importance of the
