Fahrenheit 451 - Final Assignment

From September 16 to September 22

I wanted to take this week to analyze myself and I came to the result that I am more of a
Mildred than a Clarisse. When I don’t speak to other people, I have my headphones on, simply
listening to music or while doing something else, for example, my homework. So just like
Mildred, I tend to be emerged in my own world that is the electronical world because I always
have my headphones on.

But the only times when I am more like Clarisse is when I look into the windows on car or bus’s
rides and to just take time to observe the world around me. I take the bus’s school before and
after school. They each last around one hour because I live in Longueil which is why I have time
to think about what happen that day and observe other people outside that window, but lately,
I just take that time to sleep because I’m really tired.

My goal is to more aware of my surrounding by doing an experiment by myself. So, for two
weeks, I could lose two of my most important senses that is the sight and the hearing and to still
analyze my environment. I think that by losing one of my senses could change my perception
somehow about the world and to force myself to concentrate more on the environment I am
each day that could change because of the experiment. Also, I want to do some activity that I
don’t normally do in my everyday life like to take a walk to go to the park with my little brother.

From September 23 to September 30

For this week, I wanted to lose my sight, but thinking about it, I couldn’t be blind for the day
because at school, I can’t just walk around with people. Even if they think I’m crazy, I don’t want
to bump into people. I decide to just do that experiment where I can be alone like my bus’s ride
and same for the week when I can’t hear anymore, I can’t just not respond to the teacher’s
questions.

People surely think I was sleeping, but I was only closing my eyes to concentrate on my other
sense like the touch. I could feel each bumps the bus runs into and each turn the bus took, it
was the same path each day and by the end of the week, I could tell in my head which direction
the bus would take in advance. Before I couldn’t tell in which way we had to go when the bus
driver was lost even though the ride was similar to those from the past years.

Being not able to see, I didn’t really have another choice but to listen to other’s people
conversations.

In the morning, nobody was really talking because they were tired to even talk. People were on
their phone or with headphones listening to music Because in our society, we Everyone was in
their own bubble which is normal in the society. Or they were studying for an exam by reading
their notes and books. They were asking each other questions about what could possibly be in
the exam, so they try their best to remember the most information possible that they would

, forget in three days. Because we classify the students by their grades in exams, those one tries
to memorize the necessary information for the exam without really knowing and understand the
subject as such. In a way, the knowledge of a person is characterized by their grade that is only
the regurgitation of information on the exam.

But in the afternoon’s rides, people were way louder because everyone were telling what
happened trough their day to others. For me, it kind of sounded like the conversations between
Mildred and her friends. Because when someone talks about anything, other people will just
respond by saying practically nothing. They don’t really care about each other because outside
the bus, they don’t even talk to each other. There was a girl who was telling others about some
drama in her grade that even though a girl liked that boy, she still ignored him. She was talking
about other people’s life to entertain herself and the others.

Sometimes, people were just talking to fill in the silence maybe because they didn’t want to be
the awkward silence by talking about how the house that just was pretty even though we see it
every day.

From October 1 to October 7

By losing my hearing, I had to wear ear plugs to not even listen to music because if I had my
headphones on, nothing will change with this experiment if I stay in the electronical world. This
was a really surprising week because even though I couldn’t hear anything, I took my time to
observe the people driving their car, people talking to each other, people waiting for the bus,
people listening to music, people eating. They had their own life and bubble and each day,
sometimes I could see the same person each day doing the same thing because he had the same
routine for the week.

From October 8 to October 27

During those weeks, I took some walk with my brother to go to the park, with my father to send
time together talking outside and my friend to spend the day walking around the neighborhood
to observe our surrounding. In one of those walks, it started raining, but really gently, we could
hardly feel the raindrops as if it wasn’t even there. The rain gave me a good feeling while we just
continued walking calmly.

For about one month, when I saw something I happened to like in my surrounding, I
would take a photo of it, so it was mostly nature (landscape and sunset) that I used in
the edit. Those images would make me relaxed and appreciate the littles things in life.

I also created some song lyrics that rimes, but isn’t considered a poem because it didn’t have the
same amount of line in the verses. I wrote this with the experiment when I realized that I always
have the same routine by going to school and to class, but I don’t question myself if I learned
something useful for the development of my own identity. While I do to school, I can also see
how people only talks about other people’s life to entertain themselves Simply put, some are
just plain phony.
