Formula: subject + het + rest of sentence + ge + verb
Time Formula: Time + het + subject + rest of sentence + ge + verb
Time Words Changing Words
- verlede ( all v words except volgende ) - is —> was
- gelede - kan —> kon
- onlangs - sal —> sou No het + no ge !
- toe - wil —> wou
- gister - moet —> moes
- destyds
- tevore
Rules
1. If the verb begins with “ge, be, her, ver, ont, het, mis” —> it gets no ‘ge’
2. If there is 2 verbs and they can be done at the same time ( v1 generally sit, loop, lê ) —> only 1st verb gets ‘ge’
3. If there is 2 verbs and they can’t be done at the same time —> both verbs get ‘ge’
4. If you have 2 verbs but no “en” to connect them —> move 1st verb infront of 2nd ( sentence gets ‘het’ but no ‘ge’
5. If there is a preposition at the end —> join it to the verb
6. If there is a conjunction —> treat each sentence separately ( questions words are conjunctions ! )
7. DAWN ( dan, as, wanner, nou ) —> changes to ‘toe’
- if DAWN is in the middle of the sentence —> change it to ‘toe’ then make 2nd sentence past tense
- if DAWN at the beginning of the sentence —> it becomes group 3 and group 3 rules must apply
8. Prober, Begin, Laat, Kom, Gaan, Hoor, Sien —> doesn’t get ‘ge’

1. If there is a conjunction —> treat it as separate sentences - oor ‘n
