The reason we made this report, is to help the World Trade Centre Twente. They wanted an online
platform or online community to improve connection between the member of the business club of
the WTC. They gave us the assignment to do research for what online platform / community would
fit best for them, since we analyzed the member of the business club.
We all liked working on this assignment, because every assignment was new for us. Since this is our
first year, none of us ever did an assignment like this. All of us liked the fact that we did it in
cooperation with the World Trade Centre Twente, because I think everyone is familiar with the
World Trade Centers over the world but never really got into it.
We worked during quarter one and quarter two hard to make sure to get a good end result, and we
think we did a good job. There were some challenges during this process, we had some trouble with
formulation our POA, but we corrected it and then we passed it. The analyzing of the customers was
also a challenge, since only 9 business club members responded. We tried to make a good analyze,
but if they all had responded, it would be much better.

, 1.2. MANAGEMENT SUMMARY
During our first semester of year 1 of the study international business our business case was out the
World Trade Centre based in Twente. They were struggling with getting good communication
between the business club members. Our job was to find a solution for that, in an online community
or an online platform. The purpose of new online platform is to create the connection between
group members so they could exchange ideas, share knowledge globally.
We did this during the following milestones:
- Types of communities & platforms and trends and developments
- Benchmarking
- Customer analysis
During the milestone types of communities & platforms and trends and developments we did
research according to two studies. The study of Staal & Wagenaar and the study of Maartje Blijleven.
The study of Staal & Wagenaar involves 6 archetypes of online community platforms and the study
of Maartje Blijleven involves 9 types of communities. We studied these studies and came to the
conclusion that the archetype community of practice fits the WTC Twente the best because it has
many advantages for the WTC Twente. Because this community can involve a lot of people but also
small groups and in this type of community people are gathering for a specialty or a role,
participating the same activity but also solving problems, identifying gaps and growing confidence.
For the study of Maartje Blijleven a knowledge sharing community would fit the WTC Twente best,
unlike Wikipedia WTC Twente is a closed knowledge sharing community. A knowledge sharing
community is an activity in which knowledge in specific information, skills and/or expertise is shared
among people, companies and communities. A knowledge sharing community fits best for the WTC
Twente, because WTC Twente is focused on stimulating international entrepreneurships through
linking them to the their network.
Our next milestone was benchmarking. The meaning of benchmarking is defined as the process of
continually making comparison between our organization and others in term of business process
which will help to boost the effective improvements. A benchmarking table is made also called brand
competitive analysis, here are 4 competitors of the website Clubee compared with 7 criteria. This
benchmarking is very useful for the WTC Twente, not only does it shows what the WTC Twente
needs to look for when creating their online platform, but one of these five websites can potentially
be their chose of online platform. The WTC can also learn that it is of essential to benchmark their
future online platform to stay up-to-date and fulfil their business club members along with other
potential customers needs and wants.
During customer analysis we analyzed a questionnaire made by the second-year students and was
send to the business club members. All of the questions are analyzed and made into a graph. What
we found out was the types of events the business club members are most interesting in. If they
know in which types of events the members partake, they know what to put on the schedule. A
result was that company drinks and meeting other companies are two important events, probably
because these two are combined with each other. So, it is important that the online community we
recommend, has the possibility to create such events.
