ACCURATE ANSWERS
"the making of needles" Materials - Accurate answers - Flat Needle Bar
-round needle bar
- eye loop
-drill gauge: tightens needle
- souder
Making of needles process - Accurate answers -clean and sterilize after making needles
-Tin the soldering iron
-drop the needle into Jig, lightly tap to ensure all needles are even ( pointed side should be down )
-drop a small amount of flux at the end of the needle groupings, tap with soldering iron.
Diameter of a needle - Accurate answers Affects ink flow and puncture of the skin
Tapers
- Long Taper : Good for Lining
- Short Taper : Good for color
Coil Machine how does it work - Accurate answers Uses magnets to power machine which moves
the armature bar and needles towards the coil.
This pulls the needle into the skin, breaking the circuit, causing the needle to go back into the machine
Coil Machine : Electromagnet ON - coils are not charged, the armature bar is up, pulling the needle up -
Accurate answers Coil Machine : Electromagnet OFF- coils are charged, pulling the armature bar
down, pulling the needle down
Tuning - voltage - Accurate answers -4 volts for shading
-5.5 volts for lining
Rotary
7-8 for either beginner lining or shading, 9-10 for lining
Tuning- CPs/Hertz - Accurate answers - Cycle per second
- 130 for lining
-120 for shading
How to adjust CPs/Hertz - Accurate answers - Adjust by moving contact screw
- Increase : moving closer to the front spring, this also shortens the stroke.
- Decrease: moving further from the front spring, this lengthens the stroke
Tuning: Stroke - Accurate answers -lining, shorter stoke 3mm
, -Shading, grey wash, med stoke 3.5mm
-packing color, longer stroke, 4mm
Tuning: Duty - Accurate answers Measures how long the needle is in the skin
Duty below 50 - Accurate answers Machine is spending more time off than on during a cycle
This means the needle is spending too much time extended out into the skin, causing extra trauma to
the skin
Duty above 50 - Accurate answers The needle is spending too much time in the tube, causing the
skin to not get enough ink
How to Adjust the Duty - Accurate answers Swinging the armature bar out and lightly bending the
back spring
If the duty is less than 50, bend the back spring up
If the duty is greater than 50, bend the back spring down
Setting up: coil machines - Accurate answers 1. set up the springs around the screw on the
Armature bar.
-Wedge the springs around the screw.
-The back spring goes under the front spring.
-Loop the O-ring around the screw, going under the front spring and over the back spring.
2. Put a slight bend in the tattoo needle
- easier to not barb the needle when sliding it through the tube
-lets the needle rest against the back of the tip more easily
3. Put the needle through the tube
- slider the needle through the tube and attach the rubber grommet
- attach rubber grommet
-needle lays flat against the back of the tip
4. Feed the needle and tube through the clamp
- loosen clamp at the base of the machine, slide tube through
- secure the grommet the end of the armature bar
5. Adjust the tube so the needle is fully retracted
- needle should be lined up with the tip of the tattoo
- tighten the clamp
Setting up : Coil Machine pt. 2 - Accurate answers 6. Put a rubber band around the machine
-creates pressure to the needle to ensure it does not bounce around
- also helps keeps the grommet in place
- too much pressure on the needle will wear out your machine and also cause the ink to " spit out"
