Critical care meaning - ANSWERS is a branch of medicine and nursing that is
concerned with the provision of organ or life support.
- Critically ill patients are those who have an actual or potential life threatening
health problem or disturbance in organ function.
- The person that can fix the patient, is that person. They must have physical
reserve to be able to heal, repair and restore itself. We are only giving the
patient's body a break in order to heal and return back to health.
- Critical care patients have extensive and invasive monitoring. The nurses are
required to assess this information, prioritise and implement
interventions/treatments early.
- Critical care nurses must be able to spot deterioration and act immediately. They
are highly skilled in order to intervene.


Critical care nursing ACCCN - ANSWERS Specialised nursing care of a critically
ill patients who has actual or potential disturbance in organ function. Critical care
nurses means to assist, support and restore the patient towards health or ease
pain and prepare them for a dignified death.
The aim of a critical care nurse is to build a relationship with the patients,
relatives, and empower the patient's physical, psychological, sociological and
spiritual capacities through preventative, curative and rehabilitation interventions.


History of critical care nursing - ANSWERS War: soldiers that were injured

they were pulling in high g-force. First ventilation introduced. They recognised
that positive pressure ventilation pushes air into the lungs and helps you breathe.
- Also found a suit that pumps the legs to promote circulation and perfusion to the
brain.
- In Vietnam, people were dying from blood loss, therefore introduced fluid resus,
blood transfusions.


Advances following polio in 1952 - ANSWERS - patients' with polio stopped
breathing and nothing to keep them alive.
