ASSIGNMENT 3 2025
UNIQUE NO.
DUE DATE: 25 SEPTEMBER 2025
, PYC4809 Assignment 3 (Exam Portfolio)
Unique Assignment Number: 647028
Closing Date: 25 September 2025
Task 1: Case Study – Dudu (20 marks)
1. Attitude and values about Dudu leaving her husband and child
From a person-centred perspective, the counsellor’s role is to avoid imposing personal
values on Dudu’s choices (Rogers, 1980). Personally, I may value family stability and
parental responsibility; however, I must practice non-judgmental acceptance and
unconditional positive regard. My values could influence me if unchecked, but the
therapeutic stance requires bracketing my personal views and focusing on Dudu’s
unique experience.
2. Advice and the client’s capacity to function without it
If Dudu directly requested advice, I would not prescribe a solution but instead facilitate
exploration of her feelings and options. Person-centred therapy assumes that clients
have the capacity for growth and self-direction (Corey, 2021). Dudu can function without
advice if given the right therapeutic environment of empathy, congruence, and
acceptance.
3. How I could be of most help to Dudu
I could be most helpful by providing a safe, empathic, and supportive relationship.
Through reflective listening, Dudu may clarify her conflicted feelings, confront
internalised expectations, and discover her own values and choices. My role would be
to accompany her journey rather than direct it.
4. Feelings Dudu may be unwilling to accept
