Settings and services in HSC

It is important to know about different services and provisions in health and
social care. As this knowledge allows self-awareness of the multiple pathways
in both health and social care careers as well as be beneficial for service
users.

Task 1

With the national provision which is a set of policies and guidelines from the
government that are there to ensure the quality and equality of many different
health and social care providers. In the UK, the majority of health care
services are government funded which is the main source of care incomes for

How the services fits into national framework as the provision of health and
care services are of immediate concern to nearly everyone in the UK as it’s
whether they are visiting their GP or seeking support. Health and care
professional aim to help provide the most appropriate care to meet individuals
needs. The NHS, which was formed in 1948 who provide a comprehensive
health service to the public centred on clinical need and not on individual’s

the NHS in England provides free health care for 55 million people. Services
are provided through NHS foundation trusts and NHS trusts who provide
ambulance services, emergency care services or mental health services.
Through the umbrella organisation of NHS Improvement, which was found in
2016, they oversee and support NHS foundations trust, NHS trusts and
independent providers deliver NHS funded care. NHS England took on full
statutory responsibilities in April 2013; the NHS is divided into 3
sectors/providers:
 Primary – Primary care is the first point of contact for people in need of
health and can be provided by professional including GPs and
pharmacists. As well as NHS walk-in centres and the NHS 111
telephone service. With NHS England who is responsible for
purchasing primary care services and some specialised services.
Secondary – Secondary care is referred to hospital and community care that
can be planned care like a cataract operation or urgent and emergency care
such as treatment for a fracture. In England, there are 233 NHS providers of
urgent and planned care. Alongside clinical commissioning groups (CCGs)
commission most of the hospital and community NHS services in local areas
and co-commission GP services with NHS England from the result of the NHS

 Tertiary – Tertiary care means highly specialised treatment including
secure forensic mental health services.

The National Service Frameworks (NSFs) are policies set by the NHS in the
United Kingdom, which define the standards of care for major medical issues
like mental health or long-term conditions. The NSFs also developed
partnerships with health professionals, patients, carers, health service

service is accessed through different services as choosing the suitable and

 Urgent and emergency care – this service has different services under
it’s service as choosing the most appropriate service from:
o Calling NHS 111 – calling NHS 111 who are available 24/7 if you
are urgently in need of medical help or advice in a non life-threating
situation from a fully trained adviser who can connect you to a
nurse, emergency dentist or GP depending the situation. They can
also send an ambulance if necessary and arrange a face-to-face
appointment as well as direct you to a local service if needed. NHS.
