residents. The Housing and Urban Development Committee of the City
Council faces a pressing challenge: the scarcity of affordable housing options
for low-income families. As the gap between housing costs and income
widens, the dream of a safe and st able home becomes increasingly elusive
for many. .;This is not just a housing crisis;
it's a call to action for equitable and sustainable urban development.
B. Thesis: The Housing and Urban Development Committee of the City Council
should Enhance the government investment in housing for low income
families because It can lead to the construction of more affordable housing.,
Offering incentives to developers to build affordable housing can get more
involved., and Implementing policies to protect tenants from eviction and
ensure stable housing for these families..
II. Problem: The issue in my community that I choose to focus on is the
lack of affordable housing options for low - income families.
A. Main Cause(s): The main cause of the lack of affordable housing options for
low-income families is multifaceted. It includes rising land prices, high
construction costs, and regulatory barriers such as zoning restrictions.
Additionally, there is a systemic failure of the private market to adequately
serve renters with the lowest incomes, who are often people of color,
seniors, and individuals living with disabilities. These challenges are
compounded by economic inequality and disparities in access to resources,
