Advertisements and display - No person shall attach to his or her personal motor vehicle
any sign, plate, insignia, or other designation identifying the driver or owner as a security officer
Badges, Patches, and Emblems - 1. None shall wear or carry a metal or metallic-
appearing badge
2. A cloth badge worn on the left breast is permitted if the prior written permission is obtained
3. Notwithstanding the corporate name of the agency, the words "police", "united states", and
"district of Columbia", or abbreviations of those words, and the seals or insignias shall not be
used.
4. "INSPECTOR" shall not appear.
Campus security department - University campus that provides security services for the
protection of students, faculty, staff, and visitors while they are on campus
Certification - The permission that must be granted by the Mayor before a person can
lawfully be employed as a security officer in the District of Columbia.
Certification card - A card issued by the Mayor to an individual certified as a security
officer
Certification renewal - biannually, no examination, update background check.
Chief of Police - The Chief of the Metropolitan Police Department of the District of
Columbia or his or her designated agent
, Denial, Suspension, and Revocation of Certification - 1.Material misstatement in the
license applied.
2. Violation of identification cards, uniforms, badges, advertising, and displays
3. Failure or refusal to comply with any regulation
4. Conviction of a felony
5. Conviction for a misdemeanor involving theft, fraudulent conduct, assault, or false arrest, or
imprisonment.
6. Convictions involving any breach of trust or an invasion of privacy
7. Carrying a deadly weapon, handcuffs, or an aerosol chemical dispenser.
Duty of security agency or employer - 1. Cannot make its own determination of an
applicant's suitability for employment.
2. Any attempt at a contractual limitation of liability shall be null and void.
3. Liability of the agency shall be limited to those times when the employee is on duty.
Each certification for a security officer shall be: - held for 2 years, with a 90 day duration
of training
Each notice shall state or contain the following: - 1. The facts constituting each violation
or other basis for the action proposed
2. Where applicable, each statutory provision or regulation violated or not complied with
3. The nature of the adverse action proposed in the matter
4. A statement advising the applicant or security officer that he or she is entitled to a full
hearing, if requested, in which the Mayor's action may be reversed
5. Information about the time and manner in which an appeal must be filed.
