own. The principle of understanding other cultures on their own terms, rather than judging or
evaluating according to one's own culture. Understanding cultures by not comparing them to
our own. Cultural relativism is the principle of regarding the beliefs, values, and practices of a
culture from the viewpoint of that culture itself.
4. Material culture - Answer physical objects that are related to a cultural group; Tangible
items that have a social significance in a society. physical objects to which we give social
meaning
5. Symbolic culture - Answer Different ideas that represent a cultural groups way of thinking
and/or behaving. i.e. beliefs, norms and communication. Non materialistic things that have
meaning
6. Signs - Answer symbols that represent something; different symbols that mean something
different in each culture. they express and idea
7. Gestures - Answer Body language that people use to communicate meanings; words are not
expressed because they are not needed. Non-Verbal Communication; actions that have
symbolic meaning.
8. Language - Answer Unique to each society, stipulates as writing, body language as well as
spoke language. The way we communicate with one another. Giving meaning to objects to
communicate with one another. A system of communication using vocal sounds, gestures, or
