A1: Three Skills
Health Information management is a field that can have many roles. For example, you
may have to work in coding and revenue, informatics, data analytics, medical records, and
possibly being a compliance officer. This comes with a lot of planning, organizing, overseeing
and protecting patient information. This requires many skills to be able to meet daily work
requirements. The following three professional skills are what I feel will help me to succeed in
the field.
Detail Oriented: Health information Technologist need to provide accurate medical
information when working clinical data. (U.S. Bureau of Labor, 2023)

Interpersonal Skills: Health Information Technologist must be able to collaborate and
build strong relationships across different departments from the bottom of the organization to the
bottom. (U.S. Bureau of Labor, 2023)
Problem-solving skills: Health Information Technologist must be able to identify and
address issues related to the use of healthcare information systems. (U.S. Bureau of Labor, 2023)
A2: Clients You Will Encounter
Working in Health Information Management we will encounter a diverse range of patients
and clients and possibly including their families, friends, spouses etc. These clients or patients
will be of all ages, races, genders, and demographics. The clients or patients will come mostly
from different medical settings such as hospitals, doctor's offices, and possibly even lawyer's
offices. This may mean that the patient or client you are working with will need the upmost
attention so that the patient will be provided with the best quality of care in a timely manner. You
can serve a client or the family of a patient who is dealing with health issues such as terminal
illnesses, mental health conditions, disabilities, and chronic illnesses. The patient or client may
not be in their best ability to make decisions on their own for healthcare purposes, this can also
include a minor or child. This is why in this field we need the right paperwork to ensure we share
the patient's information for continuing care for patient to get the treatment needed. This field
requires providing health information via computers through EMR systems, Disc, fax, mail etc.
The technology in this field with help provide the confidentiality needed, you will be working on
a computer for many hours, and you must properly handle client information effectively and
promptly. This is to ensure the privacy, security, and confidentiality of patient's health
information. (U.S. Bureau of Labor, 2023)
