→ The Fall of Western Roman empire was the starting point but the end point can be multiple things
like Columbus arriving in Americas, Invention of the printing press, renaissance,…
⇒ The term was introduced during the Renaissance by Italian Humanists, but people who lived during this
period weren’t conscious of living in the Middle Ages
Decline & Fall of the Western Roman Empire
Couple of reasons that led to the decline of W.R.E
Political instability, internal conflicts & corruption
economic troubles, heavy taxation, reliance on slave labor
military decline due to mercenary armies & invasions
Migration from Germanic people ( Goths, Vandals,…)

476 CE ⇒ Deposement of the last Western Roman emperor, Romulus Augustulus, by the goths
The Eastern Roman Empire
