This week's assignment I was able to explore evidenced-based practices as it related to
healthcare. As a future NP, I will be participating in EBP, as it will improve patient care and
outcomes. My role will involve being a leader, advocate and resource person when it comes to
implementing EBP. It is important for us as NP to participate in EBP, as others will look up to us
to solve problems and think critically. Keeping up to date by constantly, researching, learn about
new and upcoming practices and joining professional organizations will be a way I will engage
in scholarship in my role. Barrier which I see will affect implementing EBP includes, including
not having enough time to research and other team members not wanting to facilitate new EBP.

APN Professional Development Plan
Advanced practice nurse professional development is a very meticulous and structured
process that involves educational development, licensure process, being monitored by regulated
bodies, and developing leadership skills. In the state of Florida, where I will be practicing,
advanced practice nurse scope is restricted and requires a career-long supervision by a physician
to provide patient care. The Nationaal Organization of Nurse practitioner Faculties (NONPF)
have developed some core competencies that are used as the framework for Nurse Practitioner
(NP) curriculum and for the foundation for practice. As an Advanced Practice Nurse (APN),
certain roles are attained such as leadership. Effective leaders implement positive changes in the
work setting which leads to positive patient outcomes. The purpose of this paper is to explore the
professional development of the advanced practice nurse; core competencies graduate nurses
should have and also leadership skills they should possess.
APN Scope of Practice
Becoming a nurse practitioner has always been my lifetime goal and after graduation, I
am planning on practicing in the state of Florida. The Florida Board of Nursing is the regulatory
body for APN. In terms of educational requirement, the board does not do a primary verification
of education for APN, the certifying national board does. Educational requirements for
application entails initial registered nurse training, and a master's degree or post-masters
certificate in a nursing clinical specialty area (“Florida Board of Nursing” n.d.). The master's
program needs to be accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) or
by The Accreditation Commission For Education in Nursing (ACEN) (Florida Board of
Nursing). In addition to been accredited, the program must include advanced health assessment,
advanced pathophysiology, advanced pharmacology, and a minimum of at least five hundred
