Accident Report
- answer-Document in full detail if any accidents or incidents occur. Parents must
sign and witnesses to accident. (Report must include name, time/date, description
of incident, action taken, if parent was contacted.)
Administering Medicine
- answer-Pay attention to verify all information is right: Name, dosage, route, date
and time, original package. You must have permission slip signed by parent with
directions for administering medication and signed by staff with time you gave
child medication.
Bleach solution
- answer-1 gallon of water + 1/4 cup of bleach
1 quart (spray bottle/32 ounces) + 1 tbs of bleach
Bottles "Breast is best"
- answer-Never use microwave to warm bottles. Never prop bottles. Test warmed
bottles before giving to children. Solid food such as cereal should not be used in
bottles. Prepared bottles must be refrigerated and used within 48 hours. Bottles can
only be warmed once and not re-refrigerated or re-warmed and must be thrown
away within one-hour.
Brushing teeth
- answer-Some programs like Head Start incorporate brushing teeth after meals.
Child restraint seats & safety belts
- answer-children under 3 : must be secured in a federally approved child restraint
car seat
children 4-5 : must be in approved child restraint seat or seat belt (booster belt)
Clean/disinfect/sanitize
- answer-Scrubbing and washing with soap and water to kill germs. On surfaces or
objects by using chemicals to lower the risk of spreading infection.
, Common eating causes
- answer-children may refuse to eat or lose appetite because:
-forced to eat food
-may have seen adults refuse food
-bad experience with the food in the past
-same food and same method of preparation being used day after day
Creating Positive Eating Environment
- answer--mealtimes should be happy and relaxed times
-kid-sized physical setting (table, utensils, chairs)
-children participate in food service
-avoid delays in service so children don't have to sit and wait
-set good example (young children sense adult attitudes about food)
-create an atmosphere of respect and acceptance for each child to keep the meal
emotionally and nutritionally satisfying
-serve foods family-style with an adult at the table; allow second helpings
Dairy
- answer-3 cups daily.
Emergency Procedures
- answer-Lockdown- close and lock everyone in classrooms
Evacuation- fire drill, bomb threat, gas release
Shelter in place- severe weather
Food Experience
- answer-Social skills or behaviors are taught during meal times. Motor skills or
dexterity in handling utensils and foods are learned.
Food Safety
- answer-Must follow proper preparation, storage, and food handling guidelines.
Clean food contact surfaces. REMEMBER CROSS-CONTAMINATON (clean
each surface food touches before preparing the next food item.)
