Revise your research question that addresses at least one of your chosen advertisements.
“How do societal and cultural factors influence the persistence of the gender gap in STEM
careers, and what interventions can effectively promote gender equity in these fields?”

Explain how social science perspectives could be used to process information.
Social science perspectives help us see the bigger picture and understand why people might see
the same information differently.
1. Sociology: Looks at how our social groups and relationships influence what information we pay
attention to and how we share it.
2. Psychology: Focuses on how our minds work, including how we perceive, remember, and
interpret information.
3. Culture: Examines how our cultural background shapes the way we interpret information.
Different cultures might understand the same information in different ways.
4. Economics: Considers how money and resources affect access to information and the
motivation to seek it out.
5. Politics: Looks at how power and political beliefs influence the flow and interpretation of
information.


Describe how the answer to your research question might impact others.
The answer to my research question could have a significant impact on various groups, and society
through its potential to drive meaningful change and foster a more equitable and inclusive environment
in STEM fields.
1. Women: By understanding the societal and cultural barriers we face- we can begin to address
the problem at its core by asking why is there such a large gap in gender equality in STEM fields?
Then we can better support women who are currently in STEM fields and also better support
and push future generations of women in STEM to reduce the gap.
2. Educational Institutions: Insights from my research can guide schools and universities in
developing various curriculum, programs, and even clubs (example: Women in STEM Club) that
encourage and support female students in pursuing STEM careers.
3. Employers: Companies can use my findings to implement better hiring practices (such as bias-
free recruitment that supports diversity), create supportive workplace cultures, and develop
targeted interventions to retain and promote women in STEM fields. Another way employers
and organizations can use my findings is to address the interventions that can be put into place
and apply them to the individual issues within their company, for example: Is there a difference
in pay for the same STEM career/position/role within the company between men and women?
If so, companies need to address that pay difference and support women in these STEM fields
by paying women that hold the same role as men- the same pay.
4. Policy Makers: My research can inform policies aimed at promoting gender equity in education
and the workforce, leading to a much broader societal change- in time. There should be policies
in place that prohibit gender inequalities not only in STEM fields, but in all roles of employment.
