Psychology Minor Assignment
ADHD is a neurodevelopmental condition that affects children and adults. People
affected by this condition have a problem with impulsive behavior control, paying attention, and
being overly overactive. I knew that I had developed this condition when I was young. What
made me realize that I had developed this condition was because of constant fidgeting,
conversation interruptions, lack of concentration on tasks, etc. in this course, I learned different
concepts which have been of much importance to me. These concepts of psychology include;
biological concepts, consciousness, social psychology, learning, and personality. This is the
respective order in which they are important to me.
The most crucial concept covered in this course is biological psychology. This concept
was critical to me because it helped me gain much knowledge on neuron parts and their
functions, how the brain changes after learning, how hormones affect behavior, and how
biological psychology is associated with ADHD (Lilienfeld et al., 2014). ADHD is connected
with how certain neurotransmitters, particularly norepinephrine and dopamine work, & this
variation causes differences between two distinct attentional connections of the brain connected
with automatic focus and the positive work network, which is affiliated with effortful
or directed attention. The operation of our brain is dependent on constant cross-talk amongst
neurons—nerve cells that have been trained to communicate with one another. Our brains have
around 85 billion neurons. Biological psychology has also helped scientists to MRI
and PET scans to investigate how brain growth, medicines, illness, and brain injury affect behavi
or and cognitive performance.
The second important concept I have learned in the course is consciousness.
Consciousness refers to the state of being responsive and aware of their surroundings. This
